The Minnesota Association of Orthodontists Web site, developed by St. Croix Sites, has been launched at www.mnortho.org. We would like to thank Dr. Steve Henseler for his work in putting it together. The site will be managed and expanded in the future by Dr. David Resch, Professional and Public Relations Chair. The vision is to see the site become a tool for members to obtain information on meetings, events and orthodontic news. Any suggestions for the site can be sent to David or any of the MAO officers.
The 2010 Annual Winter Meeting of the MAO was held on January 15, 2010, at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center Hotel. Dr. Robert Vanarsdall from the University of Pennsylvania spoke on interdisciplinary treatment with a special interest in orthodontics and periodontics. Dr. Ron Roncone also spoke at the meeting on the integrated orthodontic practice – meshing diagnostic, clinical and management systems. The program was well received by 111 doctors. We would like to thank Dr. Mike Hoxie for his organization of this educational program.
MAO President Dr. Michelle Bergsrud will preside over the 2011 Annual Winter Meeting of the MAO on Friday, January 7, 2011. John McGill, JD, CPA and MBA will speak on achieving financial independence. Attendance at this meeting has been opened to doctors’ spouses. Dr. Terry Sellke also will present his topic, The Bottom Line, on orthodontic practice management with the support of 3M Unitek. The meeting will be held at a new location this year at the Holiday Inn and Suites in Bloomington. This will afford attendees the opportunity to visit the adjacent Mall of America.
The Executive Business Program at Argosy University is underway with ten students. With four of the eight sessions completed, Dr. Steve Henseler, who organized the program, reports that the seminars have been efficiently organized, very informative and well received by the students.
Smiles Change Lives currently has 49 providers signed up in Minnesota with about 50 patients in treatment or having completed treatment. Several more patients have been screened and approved for treatment. The next screening will take place in June. Contact www.smileschangelives.org if you wish to participate in this organization. We thank Dr. Steve Litton for his continuing efforts with this wonderful program.
The Minnesota Board of Dentistry has approved the regulatory change to permit the placement of separators by registered dental assistants under general supervision. This effort has been shepherded by Dr. Lee Sinna through no less than 32 administrative steps. Final adoption should come sometime next year.
