According to Dr. Paul Hermanson, “Dr. John Casko's son accepted the award on John's behalf at the Excellence in Orthodontics Luncheon in Denver. Unfortunately, John injured his leg and had surgery and was unable to make the trip to receive his award. Not to worry, however – his son looks exactly like John and half the audience probably didn’t know the difference.” Dr. Robert Furhman wrote to say, “Our Quad Cities United States Tennis Association 4.5 team qualified for the sectional tournament in Oklahoma this July. To qualify, the team competed against other teams from the state of Iowa, and advanced for the opportunity to play the best teams in the Midwest. The winning team of the sectional tournament advances to the national tournament.” Best of luck to your team, Bob! Dr. Mike Rover sent a great picture of his trout fishing adventure while in Colorado attending the AAO meeting. His fishing companions were Drs. Paul Hermanson, Rick Zimmerman, Eric Atha, and Corey Conrad. Mike went on to say, “For the record, I've been fishing nine times in my life. This is the first time I've ever caught anything but a cold.” Drs. Melissa Bernhardt and Blair Smith are pleased to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the opening of their new practice, Bernhardt & Smith Orthodontics, on August 1, 2008. They have two office locations – Waukee and West Des Moines. Also, Melissa and her husband, Jeff, were thrilled to welcome their son, Dane Nicholas, on March 17, 2008. He joins big sisters, Shae and Regan. Dr. Mike Hipp is hoping for a big turnout at the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists meeting in Iowa City, October 24-26. Please mark off those dates on your busy schedules and plan to attend. Please continue to send me your news and announcements for the next issue of the MSO Newsletter. It is a good way to stay connected.
