The Illinois Society of Orthodontists finished up its year on a high note with an outstanding lecture from Dr. Vince Kokich, Sr. on April 7, 2008. Thanks to Dr. Isaac Yue for moderating this meeting. It was a very busy meeting, as the ISO installed its new slate of officers for 2008-09 as noted above. In addition, Drs. Betsy Ulrich, Incoming Trustee, and Patrick Foley, re-elected as a Trustee, were installed. The ISO also wishes to thank Immediate Past-President Cecile Yoon-Tarlie for her hard work and dedication toward creating such a successful year. Dr. Ara Goshgarian will be installed as the new Illinois Director to the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists at the MSO Annual Session this September, replacing Dr. Steve Marshall. The ISO is grateful to Steve for his years of exemplary service in that position and is excited that he will be serving in a new position as the Illinois State Dental Society Liaison, replacing the esteemed Dr. Frank Green. Also, congratulations to Steve as the recipient of the 2008 Earl E. Shepard Distinguished Service Award from the MSO. Words cannot do proper justice to the debt of gratitude that the ISO and organized dentistry owe to Dr. Frank Green for his years of service. His leadership at the state and national level has improved our specialty in countless ways, and his mentoring of orthodontists over the years has helped develop many of the leaders in our field today. On behalf of a grateful organization, thank you, Frank, for your tireless effort, dedication, expertise and good cheer (especially at our 7:00 a.m. board meetings!). We all will miss your input and guiding spirit at our board meetings. Dr. Carla Evans, Chairman of the Department of Orthodontics at University of Illinois at Chicago Dental School, received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Illinois Society of Orthodontists at its April meeting. On hand were the residents from her first graduating class in 1998, who spoke of her dedication and strong commitment to orthodontics and to teaching. In addition to her teaching duties, she has been extremely involved in the American Association of Orthodontists Council on Orthodontic Education, serving as its Chair. Congratulations, Carla, for a well-deserved honor. Also at the April meeting, Illinois State Dental Society President Keith Dickey addressed the membership, discussing his Bridge for a Healthy Smile campaign to provide dental care for working families in Illinois. He also updated the group about current political events in Springfield and what the ISDS is doing on the members’ behalf. Drs. Lee Graber, Mike Durbin and Eloisa Garcia attended the AAO Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C. this past January. This is a very important meeting, so we thank those who attended and lobbied on behalf of our specialty. Our program for 2008-09 is as follows: September 22, 2008 Dr. Gerald Samson November 17, 2008 Drs.
